What will I be expected to do when I join a fraternity?
Fraternity pledges are expected to learn about the fraternity they pledge through a process called pledge education, which prepares them for membership. During your "pledge period" you will learn about our Fraternity's history, our symbolism which we find great importance in, and the structure, order, and functions of our fraternity and the International Fraternity.
What is the difference between pledging and being initiated?
Pledging a fraternity makes you a probationary member. Pledges have the same rights as a member except the are not allowed to vote or hold executive offices. Once a pledge goes through initiation, then he is a member. Think of your pledgeship as your "free trial" membership. This is your chance to test drive the Fraternity to see if its right for you. Also, pledgeship is a chance for the active chapter to evaluate you as a potential future member.
Should I be afraid of hazing?
Hazing is strictly forbidden by OSU and most national organizations. Acacia takes pride in having a uniquely strong sense of brotherhood. Physical and mental hazing does not promote good brotherhood and therefore has no place at Acacia. You can fully expect never to be hazed during your experience in the Acacia Fraternity.
How do I join Acacia?
Traditionally one joins a fraternity by going through Rush. Rush is a week long event in which a rushee visits many fraternities and makes a decision on whether or not to join one. Although Rush week is the way many men join fraternities, it is not a requirement. You can join any time. In order to be considered for membership by any OSU Greek organization, you must also register for recruitment.
